Naming Belly Sensations
Your belly may often register sensations that
seem vague or hard to define. Here's a playful, intuitive way
of putting words to your belly's state of being. You can use
this method of naming your belly's sensations whenever you need
to come to terms with your "gut feelings."
Consider this list of categories, and add
your own categories to it:
- shoes
- vessels
- kitchen appliances
- sources of light
- types of clouds
- kinds of weather
- landscapes

- colors
- constellations
- animals
- flowers
- fruits
- sources of heat

The sentence below contains two blanks.
Fill in the first blank with a category of your choosing.
Fill in the second blank with a specific example of that
category, saying whatever picture or word comes immediately
to mind.
"The way my belly is feeling now, if
my belly were a (category:) ________, it would be a (specific
example:) ________."
For instance, if I chose the category "waterways,"
my sentence might be: "The way my belly is feeling now,
if my belly were a waterway, it would be a sparkling mountain
stream."
