Eostre: Celebrating Easter

Eostre slides into April,
spacstringing springtime along,
puts all her eggs,
spacevery promise she's ever made us,
in the basket of her womb,
readies her friend the Hare—
spacshe's placed his nightsky portrait
spacin the full moon's circle frame—
readies her friend the Hare
to help her hatch the possibilities:

Eostre's friendly Hare bestows her blessings,
spactosses them wildly from her basket into ours.
Easter's Bunny arrives in season, bearing eggs—
spacestrogenic, estro-generous—
arrives in time with the turning world,
arrives in tune with Her estrous cycle.å

Now in April, as in times ancestral,
we celebrate Easter, feast of Eostre.

brittle becomes supple
barren becomes bountiful
harsh becomes forgiving
parched becomes juice-sweet
frozen becomes flowing
drab becomes flamboyant
rigid becomes yielding
restrained becomes flagrant
dormant becomes alive.
