| Personifying
the Sacred Feminine as Sophia, Wisdom, the Bible describes her presence
at a number of sacred places, including the threshold: Hear
how Wisdom lifts her voice and Understanding cries out. She stands...beside
the gate, at the entrance to the city, at the entry by the open gate

Exercise: Opposites
as Complements
Looking straight forward, walk easily from one end of the room to the other.
Feel how each leg participates in your movement. Notice how each leg
is sometimes in front of, sometimes in back of your trunk. Notice how each leg
sometimes bears your whole bodys weight and sometimes bears no weight at
all. Notice how each leg is sometimes firmly grounded and sometimes suspended
in the air. Notice how, centered within the opposing yet complementary action
of your legs, your belly moves steadily forward. Right and left, up and
down, light and dark, masculine and femininewe can experience these opposites
as adversaries. And, we can experience them as complements framing the point of
balance found between. We can takes sides, identifying ourselves with one element
of a duality. And, we can place ourselves at the center of the circle that includes
both elements of the pair. |
